March 30, 2016 - From Beer to Bones - La Palma Luncheon Fundraiser The Beer to Bones luncheon fundraiser, held at El Coyote Flaco restaurant, was a success with a great turnout of people. In total we were able to raise $16 000 pesos to go towards our programming in La Palma. We also had some of our Rural Ed high school scholarship recipients speak at the event to give insight on the effect this program has had for them and their community.
March 19, 2016 - Don Diego Golf Tournament
The golf tournament in favor of the caddies' children's education was a great success. We had an enthusiastic group of attendees: 64 players and many more supporters. As well as a fun tournament, with excellent food and drink provided and 25 prizes won, we earned $79,300MXN for the construction of the community center in Don Diego. Rural Ed would like to thank San Miguel's golfing community, as well as board members Juan Manuel Correa and Martha Hamill for organizing this event.
March 17, 2016 - Career Day We invited some local professionals to our Career Day event in La Palma on Thursday, March 17th. We had Dr. Tania Lozada Olalde and chemical engineers Matilde Durón and José Miguel Ricañ come and do presentations for the children that included experiments and demonstrations. This is an event we do every year to inspire the children about possible career options and introduce them to local, Mexican professionals.
March 12, 2016 - Fashion Show Fundraiser/ Desfile de Modas On Saturday March 12, the first annual Desfile de Modas Mexicanas was held at the Hotel Nena in San Miguel. Rural Ed and Feed the Hungry were the primary beneficiaries of the event. Five local designers displayed their wares in a runway show, followed by a party and pop-up shop for the event attendees. Katie, Alexa, and Mawney (our interns) answered questions at the door about Rural Ed, and board members Chip and Lucy Swab served as our liaisons to the event coordinators. A fun time was had by all!
February 9, 2016 - Baubles, Bangles and Beads A huge thanks to everyone who came out to the second annual Baubles, Bangles, & Beads fundraiser on February 9th. We were able to raise $35,221 Pesos which will be used to purchase new books for our community centers, as well as buying one book per child in our La Palma program as a part of Dia de Los Libros! Keep your eyes open for our upcoming events in March!

February 2, 2016 - Don Diego Candelaria Celebration Thank you to everyone who came out to our Candelaria event, and to the community of Don Diego for providing delicious Mexican dishes! While devouring Tamales and sipping on Atole we received many generous donations to contribute to finishing the Don Diego Community Center! We had an amazing turnout, and are now another step closer to finishing construction on this wonderful center in a community that really deserves it
